October 13th, 2010UncategorizedI absolutely love white cabinets in the kitchen! I am not sure where this love came from, because I didn’t grow up with white cabinets, and I surely didn’t grow up in the country, but I look at these kitchens and I just fall in love. I get this warm, happy feeling every time I see a kitchen with wood floors, white cabinets with select glass windows, and a colorful tile backdrop. Compared to the standard dark wood, dark granite counter tops… this just makes me feel so fuzzy inside!

October 12th, 2010UncategorizedSo my baby as fleas! I never thought I would see the day! Of course, by “baby” I mean my half Chihuahua, half Yorkshire Terrier mutt. It all started when I was laying on my bed watching TV when I noticed Lacy on the floor scratching herself profusely. I thought, “Wow, she sure has been scratching a lot.” So, at 1:30 am (because I am very addicted to 48 hours which just happens to play at midnight when I’m about to go to sleep) I made my way on the floor, gently tossed Lacy on her back and noticed a small flea making its way across her belly. I freaked. Who wants a dog with fleas? This was the moment my obsession with proper flea control started. I stayed up all night, and by all night I mean I did not sleep a wink, researching online all the ways to get rid of fleas. As soon as Kesar woke up in the morning I went to the store and bought the best flea shampoo, carpet powder, flea preventative medicine and flea comb I could find and spent Friday morning and afternoon cleaning my apartment (and dog) inside and out to rid these fleas! I became obsessed. I was NOT going to a dirty flea woman. Through the research, this is what I found:
The brand “Hartz” kills, and I mean literally, kills. No, no, no, Lacy is fine. But unfortunately this is the brand I bought at the drugstore half asleep Friday morning. It didn’t take me long to research online (because the Internet has ALL the answers of course) that the “Hartz” brand has dozens of websites dedicated to the deaths and illness of thousands of cats and dogs around the word. I panicked. I was SO glad I didn’t use the Hartz anti-flea medication on my Lacy yet. However, I used the flea killing shampoo. Now, take in mind that my dog, my loving pride and joy, that may as well be a child because I love her so much, is only 4 lbs. Of course I panicked, anything too much will kill her. I panicked so much I gave her an oatmeal bath only hours after administrating the Frontline Plus Flea Killer & Prevention medicine I applied on her. Little did I know did that bath just counter acted the medicine I had just given her. Genious Jessica, way too go.
So here I am, vacumming every day and flea-combing her every hour. I can only hope that my home will not turn into a dirty flea infested area. Too bad I didn’t get the memo a month ago that Florida is the number one vacation spot for fleas, all year ’round… of course. Nothing is perfect.
